Most Requested Information by Applicants
Admissions
An average of 350 students apply each year to the Norfolk County
Agricultural High School (www.norfolkaggie.org). Approximately
120 students are enrolled as 9th graders; 10th and 11th graders
are accepted on a space available basis. There are currently
460 students enrolled at our school. The criteria for acceptance
are: grades, attendance, discipline/conduct, sending school
recommendation and an interview. All students who apply for
admission are required to attend (along with their parents,
who stay for part of the program) an admissions program at our
school that is scheduled during the school day. Students who
need accommodations during the day should ask for assistance.
Transportation
Transportation is provided if you live in Norfolk County. Out
of county student transportation is arranged through the sending
town. There is generally not door-to-door transportation, but
convenient drop off points.
Cost
Tuition is free for students who reside in Norfolk County. Out
of county towns pay the tuition for their students to attend.
Out of county applicants must submit a Nonresident Application
form (which we issue in February to all nonresident applicants)
to their local superintendent prior to April 1st to have funding
approved. Approval of funding does not mean that you have been
accepted to our school. It means that, if you are accepted according
to our admissions criteria, your town would be willing to pay
the tuition.
Typical Day and Schedule
Students attend both vocational and academic classes every day.
The school hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Busses leave
at 2:38. All 9th graders are enrolled in four academic subjects
(English, Math, Science and Social Studies), three exploratory
vocational classes (Animal and Marine Science, Plant and Environmental
Science, Diesel and Mechanical Technology), and Physical Education,
Health and Computers. All 10th graders are enrolled in four
academic subjects and six half-year exploratory vocational classes
which offer more choices in specific areas of interest. Juniors
are required to declare a major in one of our three vocational
areas.
Academics / Foreign Languages
We offer college level, standard, and remedial classes. Only
academic classes are leveled. We do not offer foreign languages
through our regular curriculum, but are currently offering college
level Spanish on our campus to qualified 12th graders through
a distance-learning course with Bridgewater State. Other students
take foreign languages through the Dual Enrollment Program at
local community colleges. Advanced students can take Pre-Calculus,
Physics and/or Biology II during their senior year. Because
we are a public school, MCAS is a required test and must be
passed in order to be eligible for graduation according to state
guidelines.
Sports and Activities
There are many different sports and activities in which students
can participate. Students are encouraged to “get involved”
in school by trying out for a sports team (there are rarely
“cuts”) or joining a club. Clubs and activities
are held during school so that everyone can attend. Information
about sports and activities can be found in the school profile.
Special Education / 504 Plans
Students with IEP’s and 504 plans are accepted according
to our admissions criteria. We offer Special Education classes
in English, and inclusion classes in Math. We offer support
classes to assist students in their regular Social Studies,
Science and Vocational classes. Accommodations are made in regular
classes according to individual IEP’s or 504 plans.
